HTML 5 Video Codecs
Almost unbelievably, it looks like HTML 5 is not going to specify any video codecs. For a specification that claims native handling of rich media (video and audio), this seems incredible.
We had only just got over the shock that HTML 5 has the potential to make the in-page use of Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight largely redundant (or at least optional for rich interactive experience).
But without an agreed-upon codec, well... once again, not exactly a real 'standard' is it? It looks like the path to HTML 5 is going to be a rocky one.
